Fred Edwards, Jr. age, 71, of Dowling passed away peacefully at home on Friday morning, January 29, 2021. He was born in McKenzie, Tennessee on January 14, 1950, the son of Fred and Winona (Bailey) Edwards, Sr. Fred faithfully served his country during the Vietnam Era and Desert Storm as a member of the United States Army and United States Navy, retiring from the United States Navy with the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class. Fred also retired from the Battle Creek Federal Center after more than 18 years and had also worked at Clark Equipment, the VA Hospital and as a Fort Custer Ranger.
Fred married Roberta F. "Bobbi (Puffer) Owens in Battle Creek on March 17, 1995; she survives. He is also survived by his son, Terry (Christina) Edwards of Concord, NC; two grandchildren, Emily and Noah Edwards; sister, Daria Raymond of Battle Creek; two step-sons, David and James Owens of Battle Creek; four step-grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bobby Edwards.
Fred was a member of the Augusta Custer VFW Post #7956, the PNA Lodge #2416, Battle Creek and the Oscar Brady American Legion Post #298, Battle Creek. Fred truly enjoyed golfing & playing horseshoes and played in the American Legion Leagues for many years. He also enjoyed watching TV and spending time with his family and many friends.
A memorial service with full military honors to celebrate Fred's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 20th at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion Post #298 228 N. 20th Street, Battle Creek, MI 49037. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the American Legion Post #298.
