Fred H. Hutchings

Fred H. Hutchings, 86, of Battle Creek, died July 3, 2022. Fred was born May 21, 1936 in Battle Creek to John and Josephine (Turbal)Hutchings. He started working for Grand Trunk Rail Road in March of 1956, and made a career of it, working as an electrician until retiring in May of 1997, after more than 41 years.

Fred loved spending time outside, fishing, hunting, golfing, taking walks and helping friends and family with projects around their homes. When his children were young, Fred would often take them on vacation during the summers for a month at a time. He enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the IBEW.

Fred is survived by his three children, Cheri (Tim) Street, Rusty (Marty Jo) Hutchings and Gary Hutchings; grandchildren Jason, Melissa, Matt and Tanner and four great-grandchildren, Avi, Alexis, Eli and Emma. Fred married the former Jeanette Reed on September 2, 1955; she sadly preceded him in death in 2006. He was also preceded in death by three grandsons, Brad, Brian and Brady.

Funeral services to celebrate Fred's life will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 11, 2022 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, starting at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Doris Klaussen Development Center, 408 Jameson, Battle Creek, MI 49014.
