Fred J. Lewis, 83, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his family. Fred was born January 6, 1930 in Battle Creek to Shirley and Dorothy (Jahnsen) Lewis. He attended Battle Creek Central High School and Lakeview High School. He was employed by Vandervoort Sport's, Michigan Carton and Oliver Corporation before becoming the co-owner of Motor Shop Electrical Construction Company.
Fred was an avid golfer and was a member of the Riverside Country Club. As a life-long resident of Battle Creek, he was also a member of the Battle Creek Lions Club and St. Mark Lutheran Church.
Fred married the former Hattie L. Parris in Battle Creek on September 4, 1948, who survives. Also surviving are their three children, Nancy L. (Lloyd) Lack of Battle Creek, Jeff D. Lewis of Battle Creek and Steve R. (Trish) Lewis of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren, Collin (Nicole) Dawes, Matthew (Sara) Dawes, Julie (John Huetter) Dawes, Adam (Krista) Lewis, Sarah Lewis, Courtney Lewis and Katelyn Lewis; five great-grandchildren, Keira, Haley, Emma, William and Lilly; and a brother, Richard Lewis.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Kenneth Lewis.
Funeral services to celebrate Fred's life will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 114 Minges Rd. East, Battle Creek, 49015, officiated by Pastor Bradley Hubbard. Interment will be held privately at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider St. Mark Lutheran Church or Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice.
