Frederick Ervin "Fred" Latshaw

Frederick E. Latshaw, 73, of Battle Creek died in Grand Rapids at Meijer Heart Center / Spectrum Butterworth on Tuesday, July 25, 2017.

Fred was born November 6, 1943 in Boise, Idaho to Richard Clyde and Della May (Green) Latshaw. He grew up in Battle Creek and was a 1962 graduate of Pennfield High School. He then honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy. Fred retired from the Processing Department at the Kellogg Company in 1996, after 31 years.

Fred was formerly married to Zoann Hodgins. Fred married Joanna Kay Uldriks on April 18, 1980. Surviving are his wife, Joanna; son, Anthony W. Latshaw of Battle Creek; two daughters, Alicia Davis and Amy (Mike) Green both of Battle Creek; eight grandchildren, Alexis Latshaw, Kendal Latshaw, Chaz Rodriquez, Jacqara Jackson, Damara Jackson, Sara (Brandon McElhenie) Roberts, Brooke Roberts, and Austin Roberts; two great-grandchildren, Julian Bennett and Anna Barletta; his mother, Della M. Latshaw of Battle Creek; two brothers, Dennis (Diane) Latshaw and Roland (Barbara) Latshaw both of Battle Creek; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Fred was preceded in death by his father; a son, Todd Ronald Latshaw and a brother, Gary Latshaw.

Fred was a member of 20th Street Church of Christ in Battle Creek and Whispering Pines Baptist Church in Sebring, Florida. After Fred retired he took up golf. Since then he has brought his father, brothers and son into the game of golf and they became very competitive golfers. Fred worked as a starter, ranger and wore numerous hats at Gull Lake View Golf Course in Augusta and Golf Hammock in Sebring. He loved to travel, include golf in his travel plans and collected golf balls from each course he played. Fred was an avid motorcycle rider. He rode his motorcycle to every state in the Continental United States and planned detailed trips for groups of motorcycle riders that included mostly Kellogg employees. Fred enjoyed spending his winters in Sebring, Florida. He was a competitive athlete and coach. He loved coaching baseball for the Wattles Park Men's Club. He was a handyman by nature and always went out of his way to help someone out. He adored his family and his welcoming mat was permanently out for neighbors and friends. He was competitive, resourceful, straightforward, and on his soft side he was known as "Freddy bear".

Friends will be received on Sunday, August 6, 2017 from 2:00-4:30 p.m. at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care in Battle Creek. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Gull Lake View Golf Club & Resort, 7417 North 38th Street, Augusta, MI 49012 at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2017.
