Fred, age 70, died peacefully at his home on Saturday morning, November 15, 2014. Fred, the son of John and LaVerna Agens (Schall) Schuring, was born on June 3, 1944 in Kalamazoo, MI; was a lifetime area resident; a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and received his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Ferris State College. He served his country honorably and nobly during the Vietnam War as a SP 4 in the United States Army. Fred was a recipient of the Purple Heart for being wounded in action; received the Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Star and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After returning from his service to his country, Fred was employed as a Food and Beverage Manager at the Gull Lake Country Club of Richland, Gull Lake View Golf Resort of Augusta and Huron Shores Golf Club of Port Sanilac, MI. He was active in helping hospitalized veterans deal with their injuries; thoroughly enjoyed playing a round of golf and wintered in Floral City, FL with his wife, Sandy.


Fred was united in marriage to the former, Sandra L. "Sandy" Chadderdon on April 7, 2004 in New York City and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mary Schuring of Grand Blanc, MI and Melinda (Shawn) MacInnis of Kalamazoo; his son, John (Sharron) Schuring of Portland, OR; four precious grandchildren, Christopher and Illiana Schuring and Lillian and Keyton MacInnis, and his sister, Sally (Robert) Stannard of Parrish, FL. Fred was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Patricia Benson.


The Graveside Service to celebrate Fred's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 24th at the Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI with Pastor Brian Lutz, of Heartland Hospice, officiating. The United States Army Honor Guard and the Fort Custer Honor Guard will bestow full military honors. Family and friends will continue Fred's Life Celebration at Gull Lake View Golf Resort, 7417 North 38th Street, Augusta, MI 49012 immediately following the Graveside Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Fred's honor may be directed to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, 448 N. Burdick Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49007. The Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Richland Chapel is in charge of all arrangements.
