Garland Fox

August 29, 1927 — July 22, 2013

Garland R. Fox, 85, of Battle Creek, died Monday, July 22, 2013 at Bronson Battle Creek. Garland was born in 1927 in Battle Creek to Eugene and Clio (Harrison) Fox. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1947 where he was a star athlete, playing four years varsity baseball and football. He was known in the baseball circles as the star pitcher named "Lefty." He work for Clark Equipment, and after retiring, worked part time at the Gull Lake View Golf Club until 2011. Gar was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 56 years and served as an usher.

Gar was adored by his family and he was always the life of the party. He lived life to the fullest and was someone you just wanted to spend time with. He was a real comedian and family gatherings always included various spirited games that although loud, were the very best of times for all.

Gar loved the outdoors and enjoyed working in the yard and growing roses. His hunting took him to South Dakota for over 30 years and in the winter and summer he enjoyed fishing. He was an avid golfer and scored a hole in one and played golf into his eighties. He and Gerry attended the World Series of Golf for many years. He also spent many hours with his friends at Burnham Brook playing pool and cards.

In 1947,Gar married his high school sweetheart, Margaret "Gerry" at the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, who survives. The couple would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in October. Also surviving are their three daughters, Cindy (Mike) Nunn, Pam (Ron) Flanders and Susan (Dr. Sherif) Awadalla;
9 grandchildren, Ben (Amber) Nunn, Betsy Nunn, Tim (Kristin) Flanders, Kate (Dave) Clark, Evan DeZeeuw, Dylan DeZeeuw, Tom Awadalla, Dr.
Michael Awadalla and Patrick Awadalla; 8 great-grandchildren,a sister, Natalie Brown and a brother, Richard Fox.

Gar was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 25, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Friday, July 26 at 1:00 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Patricia J.
Weatherwax. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Franklin Food Pantry, c/o Battle Creek Community Foundation, 34 Jackson St. W., Suite 1, Battle Creek 49017 .
