Gary L. Lake

August 4, 1944 — October 4, 2020

Gary Lee Lake, age 76, of Allegan passed away peacefully Sunday morning, October 4, 2020 at Bronson Commons in Mattawan. He was born in Port Huron on August 4, 1944, the son of George and Barbara (Haywood) Lake. Gary graduated from Battle Creek Central High School with the class of 1962. In 2004, Gary retired after many years as a respiratory therapist at Allegan General Hospital and several other hospitals throughout his career, including several years in Iron Mountain.

Gary is survived by his sisters, Carolyn (Lake) Keeler of Buffalo, Wyoming and Elizabeth Lake of Augusta, Michigan; two nephews, Justin (Zubaida) Keeler of La Center, Washington and Adrian (Kathy) Keeler of Buffalo, Wyoming; six great nieces and nephews; Aunt Carolyn Rupel of Battle Creek; and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his favorite brother-in-law, Allen J. Keeler.

Gary spent several winters in Tucson, Arizona helping to care for his mother and making new friends while walking his dog, Tasha. He loved the Siberian huskies he had over the years, and sadly his last husky, Tasha II, passed away in August. In Gary and Tasha's final months, Gary was so appreciative of the wonderful care Tasha received from his friend Bridgette.

As a young man, Gary attended the First Congregational Church in Battle Creek and was a member of the Whitechapel Bell Ringers. Gary loved the water and sailing. He spent many summers during his youth sailing and racing on Gull Lake. As an adult, he continued to sail for his own pleasure. Last, but not least, Gary enjoyed his nearly 30 years living at Minkler Lake in Allegan County.
