Gary W. Myers

Gary W. Myers, age 61, of Yuma, AZ, formerly of Comstock Township, MI, died on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at his home in Yuma after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Gary, the son of Richard A. and M. Jean (Whipple) Myers, was born on July 8, 1951 in Battle Creek, MI and he was a 1969 graduate of Comstock High School. He was Honorably discharged as a Sergeant after his tour in Viet Nam from the United States Marine Corps. Gary worked at Kloosterman Company in Kalamazoo before moving to Yuma. He then worked as a Yuma County Detention Officer and for McNeece Brothers Oil.
On December 8, 1978 in Kalamazoo, Gary was united in marriage to the former, Barbara J. Wheeler and she survives. Also surviving is his son, George (Maddie) Myers of Fort Collins, CO; his daughter, Juli Myers of Yuma; two brothers, Roger (Deb) Myers and Rick (Carol) Myers, both of Comstock Township; his in-laws, Cathie (Dave) Wilson of Kalamazoo, Mary Mays of Portage, MI and Steve (Leigh) Wheeler of Richland, MI and many nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Richard on February 15, 2005 and most recently by his mother, Jean on Monday, June 17, 2013.
A Joint, Funeral Service to celebrate Jean and Gary's lives will be held on Monday, June 24th at 10:30 a.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Augusta Chapel, 307 N. Webster Street, with the Rev. Dr. Paul R. Naumann, Pastor of St. Michael Lutheran Church of Portage, MI, officiating. Final interment will follow next to her beloved husband, Richard in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI and Full, Military Honors bestowed by the United States Marine Corps and the Fort Custer Honor Guard for Gary. Family and friends are invited to continue Jean and Gary's life celebrations with a time of fellowship and a luncheon at the Augusta Fellowship United Methodist Church, 103 N. Webster Street. Friends will be received on Sunday, June 23rd from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
