Gaylord Lee "Gay" Thoman of Kalamazoo, MI and formerly of Grand Rapids, MI
Gaylord "Gay", age 83, died unexpectedly April 7, 2018 at Borgess Medical Center, in Kalamazoo. Preceded in death by parents Kenneth and Bernice Thoman of Grand Rapids; wife of nearly 60 years, Bernice (Knoll) Thoman; and son-in-law Chip Welling. Survived by children, Barb Thoman of Saint Paul, MN; Greg Thoman (Wendy) of Wayland; and Kurt Thoman (Mary Beth) of Richland. Also survived by grandchildren, Lauren (Andrew) Niemchick, Robin Welling, Sarah Thoman, Hanna Kosiara, Nicholas Thoman, Levi Thoman, and great granddaughter Natalie Miller.
Gay graduated from Western Michigan University in 1957. He worked in computer applications at Clark Equipment, Leigh Products, and retired from Spartan Stores. He was an elder at Westminster by the Sea Presbyterian Church of Daytona Beach Shores. He enjoyed skiing and sailing with his family and motorcycling with his wife Bernice. He served our country in the Army National Guard and was a member of the National Ski Patrol.
The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 21st at 11:00 a.m. at the Gun Lake Community Church, 12200 West M-179, Wayland, MI 49348. Family will greet friends starting at 10:30 am. A reception will follow the service. Gay's cremains will be interred at Oak Hill Cemetery, Grand Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gay's honor may be directed to Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum, 6600 Tico Road, Titusville, FL 32780, where Gay was a volunteer.
