George W. Danke Jr., age 87, of Ceresco passed away Sunday evening, November 24, 2019 at Bronson Battle Creek. He was born in Battle Creek on August 12, 1933 the son of George W. Sr. and Christine L. (Brown) Danke and faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army, stationed at Fort Custer. He served as an instructor and Conservation Officer. George started his business in 1950 and maintained successful ownership of Danke Motorcycle Co. for nearly 70 years. He has been greatly respected for his expertise and mechanical knowledge. In addition, he is identified for his physical strength. In 2001, he challenged the "Strongest Man in the World", James Henderson from the Power Team for a competition. George beat Henderson in the lift (Battle Creek Enquirer, Sat., July 28, 2001). He was involved in the community, supporting dirt bike riders for many years.
George married Sue J. Buist in Battle Creek on December 12, 1990; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Mike (Cindy) Danke of Battle Creek, Jeff Danke of Florida, Tim Danke of Battle Creek, Kit Danke-Allen of Pennsylvania, and Kim Danke of Battle Creek; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, David (Sheryl) Danke Sr.; his two step-children, Carmen Grimes and Sabin Browne, both of Battle Creek, and several nieces & nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Katherine "Kay" Clapper, Ruth Ann Danke, and Daisy Mae Hoag.
A true animal lover and skilled mechanic, George enjoyed hunting, motorcycle racing, vintage motorcycles, and gun smithing, collecting & repairing. He was a member of the American Motorcycle Association and the National Rifle Association.
A private memorial service with full military honors has been held at the Fort Custer National Cemetery.
