George W. Wilkinson

George W. Wilkinson, age 92, of Richland died peacefully on Thursday afternoon, August 1, 2013 at the Life Care Center of Plainwell. He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on September 17, 1920, the loving son of William L. and Mary E. (Sullivan) Wilkinson and graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. George served his country as a Medic in the United States Army during World War II, receiving the Victory Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, 1 Service Stripe and the Good Conduct Medal. He retired as Plant Supervisor at J.A. Richards after more than 35 years of faithful service.

George married the "Love of His Life", Jean C. Dean, in Kalamazoo on July 22, 1944; she sadly preceded him in death on March 29, 2006 after more than 62 wonderful years of marriage. George is survived by his son, Randall L. (Donna) Wilkinson of Cooper; his daughter, Noelene G. (Mike) Lindsey of Gobles; his grandchildren, Jud and Trevor Lindsey, Laura Maury II and Kent Wilkinson; 8 great-grandchildren and several step-great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Esther Gaffeny.

George enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing horseshoes, woodworking, grilling outdoors and camping at Lake Schnable. He also enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers & Pistons and spending time with his family.

A memorial visitation will be held 11:00a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2013 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Richland Chapel. Funeral services with full military honors to celebrate the lives of George and Jean will follow at 2:30p.m., at the Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta.
