Gerald E. "Jerry" Barve of Battle Creek, MI
Jerry, age 72, died Friday morning, June 30, 2017 at The Manor of Battle Creek following a brief illness.
Jerry, the son of David and Agnes (Hale) Barve, was born in Battle Creek on December 30, 1944; was a lifetime resident and a 1963 graduate of Harper Creek High School. He served his Country honorably and nobly during the Vietnam War as a SP4 with the United States Army. Jerry was stationed in Vietnam and served in the infantry. He retired in 2002 after 35 years of faithful service in Quality Control for Eaton Corporation of Marshall, MI. Jerry and his wife attended Maple United Methodist Church of Battle Creek. During his lifetime, Jerry was active with boating, hunting, snowmobiling, riding quads, bowling and playing softball. He enjoyed model and radio-controlled airplanes and even took his "Solo Flight" to obtain his pilot's license. His "Pride and Joy" was his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle.
Jerry was united in marriage to the former Janette I. Miller in Battle Creek on November 7, 1964. Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Jeanette; a sister, Nina Gore of Battle Creek and three brothers, David (Martha) Barve of Colon, MI, Harry (Jackie) Barve of Hilham, TN and Charles Hale of Battle Creek. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edward and Vernon Barve.
The Memorial Service to celebrate Jerry's life will be held on Monday, July 10th at 1:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek with the Rev. Linda D. Stoddard, Pastor of the Maple United Methodist Church, officiating. Jerry's family will greet friends on Monday from Noon until service time at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI with the United States Army Honor Guard and the Fort Custer Honor Guard bestowing full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jerry's honor may be directed to the Dementia Society of America or the the American Diabetes Association.
