Gladys Marie (Long) Knapp of Kalamazoo, MI and formerly of Ypsilanti, MI,
Gladys, age 99, died unexpectedly Monday morning, December 8, 2014, at her residence.
Gladys, the daughter of William Wesley and Rose (Thomas) Long, was born on June 17, 1915 in Detroit, MI. She was a 1931 graduate of Royal Oak (MI) High School and attended The University of Michigan. Gladys did her part during World War II working for General Motors and finally retired as a secretary for the Ypsilanti Public Schools in1966. She been associated with the Girl Scouts and had been a 4-H Leader.
Gladys was united in marriage to Jay Norwood Knapp on June 27, 1942 in Royal Oak and he sadly preceded her in death on November 15, 1988. Surviving are two sons, William J. "Bill" (Laureen) Knapp of Richland, MI and Robert C. "Bob" (Beverly) Knapp of Coloma, MI; three precious grandchildren, Charles W. Knapp, Kimberly M. Knapp and Stephen J. (Kerri) Knapp and a great grandson, Read J. Knapp. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Edna Long and two brothers, Elmer and Earl Long.
As per Gladys wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service. The Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Richland Chapel (269-629-6022) is in charge of all the arrangements.
