Glenn E. Rhodes, age 86, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, November 22, 2015. He was born in Oak Park, Illinois on November 18, 1929. Glenn worked for 27 years as an architect for the Upjohn Company Engineering Department.
Glenn spent his early years living in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois until graduation from the University of Illinois. After marrying his future lifelong partner, he joined the US Army, serving during the Korean War. After service they moved to Decatur, Illinois, then Kalamazoo, and later Galesburg.
Glenn's community involvement included active participation in his son's Boy Scout troop, and serving as chairman of both the Charleston Township Planning Commission and the Galesburg-Augusta Education Foundation. He also volunteered for several years at the Fort Custer VA Medical Center.
Glenn's main hobbies were woodturning and music. He sang with the Kalamazoo Male Chorus, the Kalamazoo Singers, and in church choirs for many years. He also enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Canada, as well as overseas.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marilyn Eyrich Rhodes of Battle Creek; his daughter, Deborah (Craig) Hodges of Kalispell, Montana; his son, Norman (Cynthia) Rhodes of Maplewood, Minnesota; a grandson, Garrett (Tristan) Hodges of Lexington, Kentucky; a granddaughter, Meghan Hodges of Lexington, Kentucky; a great-grandson, Garrison Hodges, and two brothers, Ronald (Karen) Rhodes of Orem, Utah and Murray (Joan) Rhodes of North Webster, Indiana. He was sadly preceded in death by his parents, Eldo and Helen (Scribner) Rhodes.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 27, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church of Richland, 8047 Church Street, Richland, MI 49083 where services to celebrate Glenn's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 28, 2015. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the First Presbyterian Church of Richland, the Salvation Army of Battle Creek or the DAV Calhoun County Chapter #7.
