Gloria Jane Lind, age 80, of Battle Creek died peacefully on Sunday evening, February 22, 2015 at the Bronson at Home Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. She was born in Fenton, Michigan on January 22, 1935, the loving daughter of Kenneth L. and Marian G. (Hamp) Murfin. Gloria graduated from Wright's Beauty Academy and owned & operated Who's Place Lounge in Battle Creek for many years. In the 1950's, Gloria was actively involved in the pursuit of legislation that allowed liquor to be sold by the glass. She was an active member of the Battle Creek VFW Post Auxiliary, serving as president and bartending at the Post for many years.
Gloria is survived by her children, Michael Rothwell and Bonnie Quick, both of Battle Creek; her grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Waggoner, Brock (Shannon) Thompson, Shannon (Ashley) Thompson, and Chris Rothwell, all of Battle Creek; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter, and her good friends, Paula & Steve Crigger. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Bonnie Smith, and her dear friend "LuLu".
Gloria was an avid gardener and enjoyed reading, cooking (especially quality Italian food) and spending time with her family. One of the highlights of Gloria's many memories, was sharing a dance with "Del Shannon".
At Gloria's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering to celebrate Gloria's life will be held 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the American Legion Post #298 228 N. 20th Street, Battle Creek.
