Gloria M. (Hayes) Mather, age 92, of Battle Creek died peacefully on Thursday, March 9, 2017. She was born in Battle Creek on April 7, 1924, the daughter of Jesse and Margaret (Leininger) Hayes. Gloria was a 1942 graduate of Lakeview High School and was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone Company. In retirement, she pursued the art of oil painting, creating stained glass lamps and line dancing. Gloria also loved to travel the country in her Winnebago.
Gloria is survived by her daughter, Linda Shafe of Battle Creek; one granddaughter, Amy (Scott Wulf) Shafe of Chicago; a brother, Ray Hayes of Battle Creek; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty Francisco Schultz; and an ex-husband, Charles Mather.
A Celebration of Gloria's Life will be held at a later date.
