Gloria P. "Pat" Smith

Gloria “Pat” Smith, 89, of Battle Creek passed away Friday, April 19, 2024.

Pat was born March 7, 1935 to Tony S. and Edna T. (Korkus) Sadowski on the military base at the Panama Canal. She was a graduate of St. Philip Catholic Central High School and was a devout Catholic. In 1953, she was united in marriage to Leo “Joe” Smith, Jr. In the 1970s, she worked at the Enquirer News and then went on to work at Willard Library for 37 years. She traveled to 46 states of the United States and Puerto Rico because of her husband’s business. After retiring, she traveled to other countries with her companion, Lou Postula. Pat was a great artist and talented seamstress; she could draw or sew anything and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was an avid reader, a lifetime MSU fan and became a Lions fan in recent years. Pat was also member of the Women’s Service Organization at St. Philip.

Pat is survived by her son, Anthony J. Smith of Sterling Heights; daughter, Valerie A. Reilly and Kevin Reilly of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Danielle (DJ) Smith Trudeau, Timothy B. (Megan) Reilly and Kyle J. Reilly; great-grandchildren, Alexis Shafer, Allison G. Reilly, Madison H. Reilly and Gavin Goheen; brother, Anthony J. (Sandra) Sadowski; niece, Lisa (Josh) Thomas and nephew, Steve Sadowski. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Edna Sadowski; husband, Leo Smith; special friend, Lou Postula and daughter-in-law, Theresa Smith. Pat loved her family unconditionally and always had their backs. She loved watching school sports and attending her children’s school functions.

A Rosary service will be held for Pat, with visitation an hour prior, at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. followed by inurnment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
