Gordon Eldon Mead

Gordon Eldon Mead, age 76, of Battle Creek passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 peacefully surrounded by family in the Intensive Care Unit at the Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. He was born in Battle Creek on December 18, 1942 to Charles Mead and Mary Bevier, and grew up with 8 brothers and sisters.

After serving his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, he returned to Battle Creek to marry and have 3 sons. He spent his life working to take care of his family and was an incredibly charitable and giving person. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved fishing at every opportunity.

Gordon is survived by 2 sons, Gordon and Austin; 3 brothers, Eugene, Harry and Von; 2 sisters, Carol and Charlene; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Chris; his parents, and brothers, Donald, James, and John. He was loved greatly and will be missed.

The family will receive friends 1:00 to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, January 3rd at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where funeral services to celebrate Gordon's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials directed to the American Lung Association and/or the American Heart Association would be appreciated.
