Harold Thomas “Tom” Kyvig, age 79 of Battle Creek died peacefully at the Rose Arbor Place in Kalamazoo on Saturday morning, September 23, 2023. Tom was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 15, 1944, the son of Harold A. and Marjorie B. (McKee) Kyvig. He graduated from Steinmetz High School with the Class of 1961 and furthered his education at Knox College, graduating with the Class of 1965.
Tom was married to the former Margie Lee "Marge" Lanier from March 9, 1974 to September 16, 1985. He married Mary “Lynn” Westerman on August 4, 1989; she preceded him in death on January 27, 1998. Tom then married George Edward McKay, Jr. on January 30, 2013; he preceded him in death on October 26, 2021. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Janice Sanfilip.
Tom retired from the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) on December 31, 2012 after more than 23 years. He previously worked at Wilson-Hill Associates, Federal Home Life Insurance, and the Continental Casualty Company. Tom was an active and founding member of Battle Creek Pride and Calhoun County Equality, and was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Battle Creek. Tom loved to travel and especially enjoyed the trip to Alaska he made with George. He always kept Chicago close to his heart and made many visits there to attend the Opera and Symphony.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Rick Stravers 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 14, 2023 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Inurnment will follow at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church Garth. Memorial contributions may be made to Centrica Care Navigators (Hospice) or the St. Thomas Episcopal Church Endowment Fund, 16 E. Vanburen St., Battle Creek, MI 49017.
