Harriet "Susan" Katz, age 93, of Battle Creek died peacefully on Wednesday morning, December 11, 2013 at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 30, 1920, the loving daughter Robert and Viola (Gabriel) Klute. Susan received an Associate Degree from Kellogg Community College and retired from the Lakeview School District in 1993 after more than 30 years of faithful service.
In 1944, Susan married Frederick G. Katz in South Bend, Indiana; he sadly preceded her in death on August 12, 1976. She is survived by her daughter, Kim (T.L.) Wright; her son, Joseph F. Katz; her grandson, Damon Case, and her dear friend, Rev. Terry Keefer. Susan was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Klute, and a sister, Patsy Klute.
Susan was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Battle Creek and actively attended St. Mark Lutheran Church, Battle Creek. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #298 Ladies Auxiliary, Toastmasters International, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Marshall Historical Society. Susan loved researching history, reading, traveling and dancing.
A visitation will be held 12:00 - 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 16, 2013 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where funeral services to celebrate her life will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday with her dear friend, Rev. Terry Keefer, officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
