Harriette Ruth Griffith

Harriette Ruth Griffith, age 93, of Hickory Corners, Michigan passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022. She was born to Harry and Ruth (Phelps) Kaier on April 29, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan.

Harriette was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She graduated with a Home Economics Degree from Michigan State University, where she met the love of her life, Ross, in chemistry class.

After graduating they married on September 23, 1950. Together they had 4 children, Royce, Gretchen, John and Carolyn.

Harriette was the first Interior Decorator at the original J. L. Hudson's in Detroit, Michigan. This was the beginning of her lifelong passion for interior design.

Ross and Harriette, along with his brother Richard and wife Rosemarie Griffith, owned and operated The Cabinetry in Richland, Michigan which specialized in interior decor and custom hardwood furniture, for over 40 years.

They enjoyed many happy years of boating on the Great Lakes, down the Mississippi River and up the Eastern seaboard, back to Michigan on the beloved trawler, The China Doll.

Harriette was woman of many talents and interests including, painting, gardening, antiquing, art, decorating, nature and her love of animals.

She will forever be remembered for her independent spirit, creativity, down to earth personality, style and contagious laugh.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 66 years, Ross Griffith and her sister and brother in law, Gloria and Bob Rousseaux.

She is survived by her four children; Royce (the late Horst) Peppa of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Gretchen (the late Enrique) Leguizamon of Kalamazoo, Michigan, John Griffith of Hickory Corners, Michigan and Carolyn Griffith Grooms (Henry) of Tampa, Florida; five grandchildren, Ernesto Leguizamon of Richmond, Texas, Luis Leguizamon of Mamaroneck, New York, Marissa Leguizamon of Los Angeles, California, Carmen Leguizamon (John Lee) of Cove, Oregon and Ross Heflin of Chicago, Illinois; five great grandchildren, Ricky Leguizamon, Luis (Alex) Leguizamon, Humberto Pallares, Lucy Pallares and Llewyn Lee; and her sister Sharon (Richard) Pond of Livonia, Michigan.

A memorial to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel 9170 East D Avenue, Richland, Michigan. Inurnment will be held privately at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Michigan. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Gull Lake United Methodist Church.
