Harry G. Conway, 98, of Battle Creek died peacefully at his home on Monday, April 2, 2018.

He was born in Hackensack, New Jersey to William J. and Anna (Gurnee) Conway on July 14, 1919. He graduated from Hackensack High School and attended Rutgers University before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1941. Mr. Conway was commissioned a lieutenant, and served as commander of a military police company in England during World War II. In 1945, he became part of the occupation force in Berlin, Germany.

While in Officers' Training School at Ft. Custer, he had met Ingrid Carlson at the Officers' Club. After the war, they married in the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek on September 14, 1946. After living in New Jersey for several years, the Conways relocated to Battle Creek where Harry owned and operated the Conway Insurance Agency for 40 years. His interests included golf, investments, his farm on Harper Creek, his horses, and his family. For more than 50 years, Harry was a member of Rotary, the First Presbyterian Church, and the Battle Creek Country Club. He was involved more recently in the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy, having put his 60 acres in a land conservation trust.

Harry is survived by his children Harry and Joan Conway, both of Battle Creek, and his daughter Nancy Conway of Denver, as well as grandchildren Caroline and Patrick Conway. He was preceded in death by his wife Ingrid in 2003, and by brothers William and Robert Conway.
