Hattie Ruth Whitfield, age 79, of Battle Creek passed away unexpectedly on the morning of her birthday February 2, 2019 at the Oaks at NorthPointe Woods. She was born in Livingston, Tennessee on February 2, 1940, the daughter of Cooney and Clea (Ledbetter) Allred. Hattie retired as a branch manager with Michigan National Bank in 1994. She was an active member of the North Avenue Church of God for nearly 30 years and enjoyed playing Bingo and most of all, spending time with her family. Her daughter-in-law, Kathy was very special to Hattie and she loved her cooking and cheesecake.
Hattie married Bobby Ray Whitfield in Battle Creek on May 31, 1957; he tragically preceded her in death on February 21, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jerry Whitfield on April 8, 2016 and ten brothers & sisters. Hattie is survived by her daughter, Lori (Jim) Snodderly of Athens; two sons, Terry and Greg Whitfield, both of Battle Creek; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Whitfield; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Joyce Thomas, Anna Robbins, and Carol Sue (Leroy) Carlson; a sister-in-law, Carolyn (Ike) Suttons; and a special caretaker, Jane Dollaway.
The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 6th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Funeral services to celebrate Hattie's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 7th at the North Avenue Church of God, 1079 North Avenue Battle Creek, MI 49017. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials directed to the youth group at North Avenue Church of God would be appreciated.
