Helvi J. "Skip" (Seppa) Moore, 86, of Battle Creek died surrounded by the love of her family at Good Samaritan Hospice Care Residence on Monday, October 7, 2013.
She was born June 16, 1927 in Chatham, MI to Jacob and Heidi (Lemberg) Seppa. Helvi grew up in Trenary, MI, was a 1944 graduate of Trenary High School and in 1948 received her Registered Nursing Certificate from Community Hospital School of Nursing in Battle Creek. Skip was employed at Community Hospital and Battle Creek Health System and also worked with her husband, at Moore's Bottled Gas for many years.
Helvi was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Moore on September26, 1985. Surviving are her three children, Robert M. (Sandra) Moore of Ft. Wayne, IN, Kathryn M. (Del) Doud and David Alan Moore all of Battle Creek; five grandchildren, Charles, Travis, Jeff, Eric and Jacob; a step-grandson, Sean; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Helvi was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Martha Laurich and Laina Seppa; and two brothers, Arvo and Alvar Seppa.
Helvi was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Polish National Alliance. Skip volunteered for the American Red Cross and Lifespan. She enjoyed attending the annual Community Hospital Alumni Reunions. "Ge-Ge" as she was affectionately called by her great-grandchildren, loved spending time with her family.
Friends will be received 6:00 -8:00 p.m. today, Wednesday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Erick Johnson at Trinity Lutheran Church 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
