Henry L. Bossung, lovingly known as “Hank,” passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, in Battle Creek, Michigan, at the age of 83. Born on December 1, 1942, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, Hank lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his passions.

Hank was the son of adoptive parents, Raymond and Irene Bossung and birth parents, Henry Bossung and Margaret Ethington. He grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and service that would guide him throughout his life. Before joining the Air Force, Hank served for 19 months in the Army National Guard in Nebraska. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force as an airman third class from May 1962 to May 1966, stationed at Fort Custer in Battle Creek, Michigan. His time in the military was a source of pride and shaped his disciplined and hardworking nature.

After completing his military service, Hank dedicated over three decades to Union Pump in Battle Creek, Michigan. His commitment to his career reflected his steadfast work ethic and determination.

Hank shared a remarkable 62-year marriage with his beloved wife, Paula (Bunn) Bossung of Battle Creek. Together they built a life filled with love and shared memories. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Georganne Dougherty and her husband, Rick of Georgia; brothers-in-law, Mike Bunn of Battle Creek, Russell Bunn and his wife, Ellen of Fine Lake, Steve Kluvosky and his wife, Debbie of Dorr, Michigan; as well as many nieces and nephews who cherished him deeply. Hank’s beloved cat, Cyrus was a constant companion who brought him great joy.

He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents and birth parents; his sister, Sandra Peters; and his in-laws, Norma and Russell Bunn.

Hank had a creative spirit that shone through in his hobbies. He found joy in woodworking, photography, and creating intricate ground art. These pursuits allowed him to express himself artistically while bringing beauty into the lives of those around him.

Hank’s memory will be cherished by all who knew him for his kindness, dedication, and creativity. May those who loved him find comfort in their memories of a well-lived life.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date to honor Hank’s life. Interment with full military honors will be held 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2026 at the Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 W. Dickman Rd., Augusta, MI 49012.
