Hilde Dykstra Ulbrich, 75, passed away on February 7 in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born in Sint Jacobiparochie, Friesland in The Netherlands on September 28, 1940. Hilde immigrated to the United States in 1953 and graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1958. She worked for the Sutherland Paper Company after graduation.
She loved to read, and spent many wonderful visits with friends discussing favorite books. She also loved to cook, and was known for her wonderful meals, especially desserts.
The biggest success in life was her children and grandchildren. She was the proud and loving mother of her daughter, Melanie de Vries, and sons, Mark Ulbrich, Eric Ulbrich and Michael Ulbrich. She adored her grandchildren, and her greatest joy was spending time with them: Lauren and Claire de Vries; Abigail, Grace and Emma Ulbrich; and Eli, Levi and Wyatt Ulbrich. She also leaves behind many beloved, loving family members and friends.
During her last years, she was often cared for by the staff at Borgess Gardens, who treated her like family. Her children are grateful for the wonderful care, and send their appreciation.
In lieu of gifts, her family is asking that friends bring or send cards with notes or memories of Hilde that can be shared with her children and grandchildren. If you are unable to attend the service, the cards can be sent to Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 9170 East D Avenue, Richland, MI 49083.
A celebration of her life will be held at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel, at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 13th, 2016. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
