Ivan D. Head, 71 of Battle Creek passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday Feb. 22, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born February 11, 1947 in Battle Creek, Michigan to William T. and Dalores V. (Crawford) Head. Ivan grew up in Battle Creek and attended Harper Creek High School. He retired from the Calhoun County Justice Center in 2012 after 21 years of employment. Previously he was employed by HBJ Insurance Company for 10 years. He also had several other jobs over the years.
Ivan married Gaylyn Ann Westphal on June 1, 1968 in Battle Creek. Surviving are Gaylyn, his wife of 49+ years; three children, Kenneth W. "Kenny" (Cindy) Head of Kalamazoo, Mary Anne (Jim) Head-Dunston of Battle Creek, Ivan "Buddy" (Aaron) Head of Middleville; 11 grandchildren; 5+ great-grandchildren and a sister, Teresa (Gerry) Hammontree of Marshall. Ivan was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Barbara Thomas, Beverly Thomas and Ilene Head.
Ivan built and raced stock cars for 35 years. He enjoyed building street rods and was a member of Sunset Cruisers Car Club. He also enjoyed hunting, spending time with his family, going to car shows and being at the track. Ivan loved helping others and will be remembered as Mr. Fix it.
Friends will be received Friday, February 23, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. â 7:00 p.m. at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Chad Parmalee Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11 a.m.. Interment will be held at Bedford Cemetery at a later date.
