John W. “Jack” McGovern, 77, of Richland, died September 30, 2025. Jack was born November 16, 1947 in Cheboygan, MI to Patrick and Merle (Shessia) McGovern. He graduated from high school and then served his country honorably in the United States Army. After his time in the military Jack worked as a truck driver, both over the road and most recently for the VA.
Jack married the former Eva Morris on June 21, 1996, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Tina McGovern and John McGovern Jr.; his grandchildren, Derrick and Travis Kilbourne, Charlotte McGovern, Austin and Audrey, and Pippin and Oryn; a stepson, Doug Van Orman; 2 brothers, Pat and Clayton McGovern and two sisters, Pam Kitchen and Kathy P. He was preceded in death by his parents and other siblings.
Jack had many hobbies, including sky diving, traveling, playing guitar, card playing, woodworking, golfing and bowling. He was an expert pool player and played in various tournaments all over. Jack and Eva enjoyed riding their motorcycle all around the country together. Jack was a great neighbor and enjoyed helping all of those around him.
A graveside service to celebrate Jack’s life will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Arrangements by the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
