Jack M. Smith, 75, of Battle Creek, the former longtime owner/operator of Smith Trucking died Wednesday, November 9, 2016.
Jack was born November 22, 1940 in Monterey, Tennessee to Orville C. and Maudie L. (McCowan) Smith. As a small child, he moved with his family to Battle Creek. Jack grew up in Battle Creek and attended Battle Creek Central High School. Jack honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from August 1966 to August 1968, with a 1-year tour in Korea. Jack worked for Whitehouse Ice Cream, Michigan Carton and Clark Equipment, before starting Smith Trucking, which he owned and operated for 30+ years, prior to retiring in 2006.
Jack married Beverly May Seivert on September 3, 1960 in Battle Creek. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly on August 4, 2016. Surviving are two brothers, Ralph (Judy) Smith of Battle Creek, MI; Orville "Ray" Smith of Monterey, TN; & numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. In addition to his wife, Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Orville C. & Maudie L. Smith, as well as sister-in-law, Sharon Lee Smith.
Jack loved fishing and R.V. travel, with many trips to Tennessee to visit extended family. Jack also was a CB/Ham radio enthusiast.
Friends will be received Tuesday, November 22 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care the hour prior to services, beginning at 12:00 p.m. Memorial services will be officiated by Pastor Tony Phipps at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2016, with military honors presented by the U.S. Army.
