Jack D. Thomas, 79, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Glen Arbor Hospice of SW Michigan with his family by his side. The youngest of three siblings, Jack was born April 20, 1938 to Ward and Flora Thomas.
Jack graduated from Lakeview High School and later took classes at KCC. He served honorably in the Army National Guard of Michigan from 1959-1965. After his military service, Jack took a job with the Kellogg Company where he proudly worked, was a member of the Kellogg's 25 Year Club, held Journeyman licenses as a Millwright, Pipefitter and Steamfitter and finally retired after 35 years of service. Early is his life Jack served as a community volunteer for the Battle Creek Fire Department and later in his retirement, enjoyed working and serving at The Haven of Rest Ministries. Many of you will remember him from these places and times, as well as the many days he spent in the great outdoors, having shared time with him hunting, fishing and camping.
Jack loved his four daughters and was a Super Hero to them and their families. They will remember him most for the love and laughter that was evident when you were with him and that he was always ready to share with all who were around him.
Surviving are Debra Ann (Michael) Thomas-Barnes, Allison Kay (Peter) Trumbull, Shannon Marie Love, Amy Lynn (Ben) Thomas-Clark and Patrick Ryan Love. As much as he loved his own daughters, Jack loved his grandchildren too, and is survived by Chelsea Ann (Jeff) Taylor, Jacob Charles Patrick Love, Morgan Ann love, Slava Thomas Trumbull, Elena Kay Trumbull, Hayden Jack Love, Olivia Rene' Randall, Emerson Amelia Clark and Ella Ann Clark. Jack was also fortunate enough to love and enjoy two great-grandchildren, Tanner Kyle Taylor and Aubrey Ann Taylor. Also surviving is his sister-in-law Carolyn Thomas, his many nephews, nieces and their families.
Jack was preceded in his passing by the family he loved, his parents, his brother Robert Thomas, sister Ardra Boomgard, niece Jean Boomgard and his beloved canine companion Miss Jackson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 24, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where funeral services to celebrate Jack's life will be held on Thursday, January 25 at 11:00 am., officiated by Rev. Robert G. Muirhead. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to The Haven of Rest Ministries, Battle Creek, MI and A.S.K. (All Species Kinship), Battle Creek, MI.
