Jaime A. Nichols, 39, of Augusta, MI, died peacefully, Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at her home surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness. She was born October 16, 1974 in Battle Creek, the daughter of James M. and Edwina H. (Winkowski) Ward and was a 1993 graduate of Lakeview High School and attended Michigan State University until illness forced her to quit her studies. In high school she was a member of the orchestra, swim team, golf team, National Honor Society, B.C. Youth Orchestra. She was also a National Merit Scholarship runner-up and a member of Girl Scouts. Jaime was one of two students from Lakeview High School in 1991 chosen by the Michigan Department of Education to be Students Ambassadors to the Shiga Prefecture. During and after college, she was a waitress at various restaurants in the Battle Creek area, and in 1999 she started working at the Barking Frog in Augusta until she retired in 2013 due to illness.
On April 30, 2004, Jaime Alouise Ward was united in marriage to Theodore M. Nichols in Battle Creek, he survives. In additional to her husband, Ted, Jaime is survived by daughters, Kayla Grace Nichols and Suzanne Renee Nichols both at home; her parents of Battle Creek; aunts, Jeannie (Jack) Pettet, of South Haven; Angela (John) Felabom, and Carol (Randy) Shanory, both of South Bend, IN; an uncle, Gene (Nancy) Ward of San Diego, CA; ten cousins and special friends, Haley Jones of Sherman Lake, Augusta; hospice nurse, Deb Stupek; and Dr. Ronald Seagle. Jaime was preceded in death by her paternal-grandparents, Joseph A. and Velma (Butler) Ward and maternal-grandparents, Edwin A. and Mary H. (Dzikowski) Winkowski.
Jaime was a member of the Augusta Ladies Auxiliary VFW No. 7956, loved to golf and swim, and was a voracious reader of all types of books. She also assisted her daughters Girl Scout Troops, because she loved spending time with her daughters camping. Jaime fought a long, silent battle with ACC since its discovery in 1999.
A celebration of Jaime's life with family and friends will be held 1:00 -4:00 PM, Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Augusta VFW, 13540 W M-96, Augusta, MI 49012.
