In Loving Memory of Jim Beech

James Earl Beech, known to family and friends as Jim, a lifelong son of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away surrounded by his family. Jim lived, worked, and remained active in his community in Battle Creek for most of his life before eventually moving to Florida to be closer to his grandchildren and enjoy warmer winters.

Jim was born in Battle Creek to Fred and Margaret Beech. He was a man who loved his family deeply, worked hard, lived life on his own terms, and had a personality that was impossible to forget. He was a natural leader, a charmer, and someone whose magnetic personality could light up a room. He had a gift for making people laugh and a willingness to help others whenever he could.

Jim married Sandra Jean Wank, and together they had three children, James, Daniel, and Christina Beech. He later married Alice Wirt and welcomed her son, George Hornberger, into his family as his stepson. In his third marriage, to Denise Bilbrey, Jim welcomed another stepson, Jason Killian, into his family.

Of all his accomplishments, Jim considered his children his greatest. He fought hard throughout his life to see his children safe, happy, and successful, doing everything he could to guide and support them. Family came first for Jim, and the love he had for his children and grandchildren was at the heart of who he was.

Jim was a proud grandfather. Through his son Daniel and his spouse, Wendy, he was blessed with three grandchildren, Kayler (Austin), Karra (Jared), and Kelsie. Through his daughter Christina, he was blessed with his granddaughter, Leandra. His family grew again with the arrival of his great-grandson, Roman, Kayler and Austin's son.

One of the most special moments of Jim's final summer was having the opportunity to see Roman for the first time. That moment gave Jim a precious new memory and the chance to see and know a new generation of the family he had worked so hard to build.

Jim also had a lifelong love and dedication to his father and mother's business, Beech and Rich. He worked there for more than 50 years, helping carry the family business to its remarkable 100-year milestone. His dedication to the business was one of his proudest accomplishments and a testament to his incredible work ethic and loyalty.

Beyond his work, Jim gave his time and energy to his community. He was a coach and, at one time, served as President of the Lakeview Rocket Football League. He loved traveling, riding motorcycles with friends, sharing a stiff beverage, and enjoying a good laugh. He was a devoted Detroit Lions fan and would watch them play whenever he had the opportunity.

Perhaps Jim's toughest accomplishment, however, was one he never asked for. Jim fought Parkinson's disease for many years with a toughness and determination that few could match. He rarely complained about his condition. Instead, he lived his life in defiance of the diagnosis, refusing to let Parkinson's take away the things he loved.

He continued to travel, laugh, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy life for as long as he possibly could. Even as the disease progressed, his spirit remained strong until the very end. Following a sudden fall and rapid decline, Jim passed away surrounded by the family he loved.

Jim is survived by his children, James and his spouse, Vera; Daniel and his spouse, Wendy, and their children, Kayler, Karra, and Kelsie; and Christina Beech and her daughter, Leandra. He is also survived by his great-grandson, Roman; his stepsons, George Hornberger and Jason Killian; his sister, Jeanita Hegner (Bob), affectionately known as "Jeep"; and their children, Tim (Libby) Hegner and their extended family; Kimberly Wathen and her extended family; Victoria Morgan and her extended family; and Nichole Hegner and her extended family.

Jim is also survived by his nieces and nephews from his departed sisters, including Stephanie Lane (Carol's daughter), Shari Cardosa (Barb's daughter), and Kevin Paige (Barb's son), along with their families.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two of his sisters, Carol and Barb; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Jim leaves behind more than a family name or a business legacy. He leaves behind decades of memories, lessons, laughter, friendships, and the example of a man who worked hard, loved fiercely, helped others, and refused to let life's challenges define him.

He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 28, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care in Battle Creek, Michigan. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 27, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and again before the funeral services on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Details regarding a gathering, after the services, to celebrate Jim’s life will be announced at the funeral service and shared with family and friends on Facebook.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jim's memory to organizations supporting Parkinson's disease research and "Heart to Heart" Hospice, in appreciation of the compassionate care and support provided to Jim and his family.
