James LeRoy Boyd, 71, of Battle Creek, Michigan died peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Bronson Hospital in Battle Creek after a courageous five-year battle with Parkinsons and Alzheimer’s.
James was born July 29, 1954, in Battle Creek, Michigan to Estal and LaVonne (Penland) Boyd. He was a 1972 graduate of Lakeview High School. In 2004, after 30 years, Jim retired from the Kellogg Company as Coater Man on the Mini Wheat line.
He met his future bride at Central Christian Church. James LeRoy Boyd married Laura Lynn Hatch on September 12, 1987. He is survived by his wife, Laura; his niece, Jamie (Leroy) Conant of Battle Creek, who was like a daughter to him; his cousin, Carlene Potter of Battle Creek; his beloved cat, Max; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Susan Jean Gibson; and a beloved nephew, Richard Gibson.
Jim was a member of Central Christian Church and the Kellogg 25 Year Club. He enjoyed dining out, taking drives, exploring new places, and watching his favorite shows on Food Network and HGTV. He also loved turning up country music and singing along with his favorite artists. Jim and Laura treasured their many trips to Disney World in Florida, where Jim was like a kid in a candy shop. Those memories are especially dear to Laura. Jim will always be remembered as a very happy and loving man, that cared deeply about others and was extremely generous to everyone.
