James G. "Jim" O'Neill

James G. "Jim" O'Neill, age 81, of Battle Creek passed away Wednesday evening, August 27, 2014. He was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on September 13, 1932, the loving son of James H. and Mary E. (Gilbertson) O'Neill. Jim faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Navy and retired from Grand Trunk Railroad after more than 30 years of service as a Conductor/Brakeman.

Jim married Loretta L. "Lori" Beltz in Battle Creek on August 16, 1968; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Candace Cline-Beltz of Battle Creek, Karyn Beltz-Green of Battle Creek and James (Stephanie) O'Neill of Mooresville, North Carolina; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, and a sister Mary Jane (Al) Quattrucci of Rhode Island. Jim was sadly preceded in death by his son, Rick Beltz and a brother, Jack O'Neill.

Jim was an avid sports fan and truly loved Notre Dame football. He enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

The family will receive friends 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where funeral services to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday with Rev. Robert G. Muirhead, officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Family and friends will continue Jim's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon immediately following the interment at the Eagles Aerie # 299, 19757 Capital Avenue, Battle Creek.
