James Allen "Jim" Horner

July 8, 1969 — March 11, 2016

James Allen "Jim" Horner, 46, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away at his home on March 11, 2016 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
The funeral service will be held on 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Farley, Estes, Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care of Battle Creek, with Reverend Bob J. Heine will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral at Battle Creek Memorial Park.
Jim was born in Battle Creek, MI on July 8, 1969, and was a lifelong resident. Jim graduated from Battle Creek Central High School, in 1987, where he played football.
Jimmy was married to Michelle "Shelly" Mineno on August 8, 1992; and they were together over 25 years.
Anyone who met Jim instantly recognized his gentle soul. Jim was a very caring person who could make you deep belly laugh with his keen sense of humor. He enjoyed calmly sitting in the summer sun listening to the birds and enjoying the flower gardens.
Jimmy worked in the garden center/sporting goods for his other family at K Mart for 15 years. Prior to K Mart he worked at Wolohan Lumber and as a butcher at Bailey Park Thriftway. In his youth, Jim played floor hockey traveling to tournaments as far away as Canada Jim also golfed in his youth He enjoyed playing cards with friends, spending time with family, gardening, and cookouts He also enjoyed going to Shipshewana with Michelle, the occasional trip to Mackinaw Island, and relaxing with his dogs.
Jim was also an avid collector of football, baseball, and Star Wars memorabilia. His favorite players were Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Frank Thomas. Jim enjoyed reading and studying US History, particularly the Civil War and WWII; lately reading about the Missouri Battleship.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Michelle, his father Roger A. Horner, sisters Cindy (Kim Allen) Anderson, Susan "Sue Bee" Horner, mother-in-law Pat Mineno (Jerry), nephew Mark (Stephanie) Anderson, niece Kristin "Krissy" Anderson, grand-nephew Jaxson, Diane DeKoster, and many other family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Faye Horner.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society and the Humane Society. Jim's family wishes to thank his wife Michelle for being a totally devoted caregiver, Tim Starling, Dr. Randy Mudge and all of the kind people of the Cancer Care Center as well as hospice nurse Janice..
