James "Jim" Laurence, age 74, of Richland died Sunday afternoon, October 5, 2014 at his residence.  He was born in Marshall, Michigan on November 6, 1939 and was the loving son of Dean R. and Margaret V. (Muth) Laurence.  Jim grew up in Virginia, graduating from Falls Church High School in Falls Church, Virginia.  He then received his undergraduate and Master's Degree from South Eastern University in Washington D.C.  He then moved back to Michigan in 1974 where he met LouAnn (Dorey) in November of 1976.  Jim owned and operated a Real Estate & Land Development Company for many years.  
      
Jim married the "Love of His Life", his wife of 37 years, LouAnn (Dorey) at his mother's home at Gull Lake on December 23, 1977; she survives.  He is also survived by his daughter, Katherine (Eric) Wise; his son, James R. (Deanna) Laurence, II; grandchildren, Noah & Andrew Wise and Deven & Jacob Laurence; mother-in-law, Betty Dorey; aunt, Patricia Muth, and several cousins & friends.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents.  
     
Jim was a past member of the Gull Lake Area Rotary Club of Richland.  He was a collector of many things and enjoyed history and traveling, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. 
     
The Eucharist to celebrate Jim's life will be held on Friday, October 10th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 9800 East BC Avenue, Richland 49083 with Father Joel L. Turmo, Rector, officiating.  Family and friends will continue Jim's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon in the Church Social Hall immediately following the Mass.  Interment will follow the luncheon in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kalamazoo.  The Laurence family will receive friends on Thursday, October 9th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue (M-89).  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jim's honor may be directed to Reverence Hospice, 348 N. Burdick Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49007 or the Church.
