James Paul "Jim" Mackaluso

James Paul "Jim" Mackaluso, 72, of Battle Creek, Michigan died at home with his girlfriend, Era Kapitsyna at his side, on Tuesday, July 6, 2021.

Jim was born January 24, 1949 in Kalamazoo County to Paul James and Waneta (Twomey) Mackaluso. He grew up in Battle Creek and graduated from high school and earned an Associate's Degree from Kellogg Community College. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS La Salle, until his honorable discharge in 1970. Jim was employed for a Christian Broadcasting Company. While living in Texas for 30 years, he worked in sales and control for an environmental hospital products firm.

James Paul Mackaluso was united in marriage to Dorothy Ruth Johnson. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy on January 13, 2013. Surviving are his girlfriend, Era Kapitsyna; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Miranda Hiroka Mackaluso of Woodside, NY; granddaughter, Maple Mackaluso; father, Paul James Mackaluso of Battle Creek; sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Craig VanDongen of Battle Creek; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. In addition to his wife Jim was also preceded in death by his mother, Waneta Mackaluso.

Jim had a strong belief in God and had been a church member in Texas and Battle Creek. He volunteered at the Battle Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Jim loved spending time with Era and his family. He enjoyed historical WWII movies; and classical and big band music. Jim will be remembered not only as a father, brother and boyfriend; but as a friend to all.

A service to celebrate Jim's life was officiated by Rev. David Mackaluso at Fort Custer National Cemetery 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2021, where full military honors were presented by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and Fort Custer National Cemetery Honor Guard.
