James Tarrall Stephens

James Tarral Stephens Sr., 77 of Punta Gorda, Fl. and formerly of Battle Creek, MI died peacefully at home in Florida on Friday, July 25, 2014.

Jim was born August 27, 1936 in Perry FL, to Odell and Shellie (Kinsey) Stephens. He grew up in Ft. Pierce, Florida where he also attended high school. He owned and operated Discount Service Heating and A/C, for 35 years, retiring in 1994.

James married the former Barbara Cullen on March 20, 1958 in Ft. Pierce, Fl. Surviving are Barbara, his wife of 57 years; daughters, Cynthia Stephens (Barry)Coy, Terry Stephens and Nicole Ryder; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by a son, James Tarral Stephens Jr. and a grandson Bryan James Burdette.

Jim enjoyed living in the country raising his cattle and spending time with friends and family. He especially loved his John Deere tractors. He will be remembered for his good sense of humor.

Friends will be received 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday and 12:30-1:25 p.m. Saturday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral home, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm, Saturday August 2, 2014. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Interment will follow at Assyria Cemetery.
