James R. "Jim" Steve

James "Jim" R. Steve passed away peacefully on January 22, 2023 with his children by his side. He was born in Battle Creek on August 5, 1943 to John E. and Marjorie B. (Pierce) Steve. Jim attended W.K. Kellogg Consolidated schools, graduating in 1961. He worked for Michigan Paperboard Corporation for over 45 years in printing and cutting and then later on as a millwright, retiring in 2007.

Jim married Joyce Ann (Edgar) Steve on September 21, 1963. Sadly she preceded him in death on July 26, 2003. Together they enjoyed traveling, camping, snowmobiling and going to the casinos. In his younger years, Jim enjoyed stock car racing.

Jim is survived by his wife, Lindy Steve of Battle Creek; his daughter, LeAnne (Bryan Grace)Hoyt; his son, Kevin (Christine Tigges Elliott) Steve; and a daughter in-law, Maria (Jay) French all of Augusta. He is also survived by his grandchildren, JoAnn (Brian Stafford) Steve of Battle Creek, Jessica (Jeremy) Clark of Luther and Tyler (Hannah Young) Steve of Augusta; a great-grandson, Joey Clark; a brother-in-law, Ronald Edgar of South Carolina and many "Bonus" kids and grandkids. In addition to his wife, Joyce; Jim was also preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kirk R. Steve; a brother, John E. Steve Jr.; a sister & brother-in-law, Suzanne (Earl) Borgman; a brother-in-law, Larry Edgar; and a sister-in-law, Willie Edgar

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 26th at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Augusta Chapel where funeral services to celebrate Jim's life will be held 2:30 p.m., Friday, January 27th. Interment will follow at Day Cemetery in Ross Township. Memorials may be directed to the Cancer Care Center at Bronson Battle Creek or to The Gifted Tree (https://www.thegiftedtree.com).
