James P. "Jim" Woodman, age 86, of Battle Creek passed away Sunday evening, December 4, 2022. Jim was born in Wyandotte, Michigan on December 27, 1935, the son of Ray and Ila Mae (Philips) Woodman. He faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Air Force reserves and retired from Eaton Manufacturing.
Jim married the "Love of His Life", Ilene C. Osborn in Battle Creek on May 2, 1959; she sadly preceded him in death on April 12, 2020. He is survived by his daughter, Penny Springer; his grandchildren, Matt (Tracie) Woodman, Kami Woodman and Kim (Micah) Aseltine; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Naomi Satterwaite. Jim was also preceded in death by his sons, James and Jeffery Woodman; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Sue Woodman; a son-in-law, Edward Springer; and three sisters, Emily Woodman, Ruth Campo and Phyllis Croften.
Jim was a long-time member of the Battle Creek Lodge # 12 F. & A.M. and the Order of the Eastern Star, where he held several officer positions over the years. He also attended the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek and was a member of the United Commercial Travelers of America. Jim was a licensed Ham Radio operator, and collected coins, but his true passion was his trains (Lionel, Steam engines, and all types) and he had a very extensive collection.
A private family service has been held and a public memorial gathering will be held 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2022 (Jim's 87th birthday) at the Caring Community Church, 1015 Irwin Ave. Albion, MI 49224. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children or the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
