Janet Embury

Janet (Orrison) Embury, 83, of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at the Oaks at NorthPointe Woods.

Janet was born on December 6, 1938 to Gilford and Dorothy Orrison. In 1956, Janet graduated from Marshall High School and married the love of her life, Kenneth Embury. Together they had two children and she was a stay at home mom. She was involved in her children's activities and became a cub and girl's scout leader and was like a mom to her children's friends.

She enjoyed spending time at Firekeepers Casino, sewing and had many hours having reunions and swimming with family and friends.
After her kids were grown, she went to work for McDonald's. Over the 13 years she was there she had made lots of friends, some she even called family. She continued growing her family with the friends she made during her time spent living at The Oaks. Janet will be remembered as a very loving person.


Janet is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, her son, Donald (Debbie) Embury, daughter, Brenda (Kevin) Hunt; grandchildren, Branden (Christine) Hunt, Mathew (Sarah) Embury, Amanda (Shad) Hall, Caleb (Melissa) Embury, Kaneigha, Joseph, Isaac, Jasmin, and Marcus, along with nine great-grandchildren; brother Mike (Connie) Orrison; and sister-in-law, Marliyn Orrison. Janet is preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Donna (Nolan) Gutchess, her brother, David Orrison and granddaughter, Krista Hunt.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022 and one hour prior to the service at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Funeral services to celebrate Janet's life will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at the funeral home.
