Janice "Jan" Vandongen

Janice "Jan" VanDongen, 62, of Battle Creek went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 25, 2015. Jan was born in Battle Creek, Michigan to Bruce and Evelyn VanDongen on January 27, 1953. Jan attended Battle Creek Christian School, W.K. Kellogg Junior High, was a 1972 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and attended Kellogg Community College. She attended Covenant Hope Church (formerly Battle Creek Christian Reformed Church). She previously played slow pitch softball and volleyball. She enjoyed crafts, was accomplished at needlepoint and crochet. Jan very generously made hats for charitable organizations, hospital staff, friends, and family. Jan provided frequent contributions with her time and her talents to Operation Christmas Child.

Surviving are her mother, Evelyn VanDongen; two brothers, Chuck (Joyce) VanDongen, Craig (Becky) VanDongen; a sister, Kathy (Ken) Gregory; seven nieces and nephews; and five great nieces and nephews. Jan was preceded in death by her father, Bruce VanDongen; both sets of grandparents and several uncles.

Memorial services will be on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at Covenant Hope Church, 1021 Wagner Dr., Battle Creek, MI 49017. The service will be officiated by Rev. Roger D. Grandia. Memorial contributions in memory of Jan, may be made to Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child is a division of Samaritan's Purse. Locally it is administered through local churches. Checks may be made payable to Calvary Baptist Church, with the notation, In memory of Jan VanDongen – Operation Christmas Child. Please mail to the Calvary Baptist Church, 1625 Capital Avenue N.E., Battle Creek, MI 49017. Envelopes will be available through the funeral home and at the memorial service for Jan.
