Jason Edward Hughes of Battle Creek, MI
Jason, age 34, died Sunday afternoon, June 25, 2017 at his residence and following a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Jason, the son of Betty L. Hunsberger and John E. Hughes, was born in Battle Creek on November 14, 1982; was a lifetime resident and 2001 graduate of Harper Creek High School. He furthered his education with an Associate Degree from Kellogg Community College. Jason was employed by FireKeepers Casino and Hotel before it opened in the Stewarding Department until his illness. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Battle Creek and a huge Detroit Tigers Fan, having been to a game just a few weeks ago. Jason's passion in life was railroads, full scale and model trains.
Surviving are his mother, Betty, with whom he resided; his dad, John of Portage, MI; two sisters, Kelsey Hughes of Minneapolis, MN and Linnea Hughes of Battle Creek and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Jason was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents.
The Funeral Service to celebrate Jason's life will be held on Thursday, June 29th at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 1625 Capital Avenue, NE, with Pastor Thomas C. Townsend, officiating. Interment will follow at Newbre Cemetery, Emmett Township. Jason's family will greet friends on Wednesday, June 28th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jason's honor may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Church (See address above).
