Jeane A. Gilson of Plant City, FL and formerly of Battle Creek, MI
Jeane, age 91, died Saturday, February 14, 2015 due to injuries received from a fall.
Jeane, the son of George and Myrtle (Tucker) Gilson, was born on March 28, 1923 in Minot, ND, the youngest of 13 siblings; moved to Battle Creek as a child and attended Battle Creek Central High School. He served his country honorably and nobly during World War II as a Private First Class in the Army Air Corps, 363rd Air Service Group. Jeane saw action in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and was awarded numerous citations for his service. He retired in 1981 after 42 years of faithful service at Post Cereals in the Packaging Department. Jeane was literally a "Mr. Fix-It" as he was always puttering and fixing something. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their cabin at Higgins Lake, MI. The remainder of his time was spent spoiling all the grandkids!
Jeane was united in marriage to the "Love of his Life," the former Leona P. Deuel on September 4, 1949 in Battle Creek. Surviving is his wife of 65+ years, Leona; two daughters, Judy Johns of Grayslake, IL and Kathy (David) DeVault of Crossville, TN; his son, Wayne (Wanita) Gilson of Gilmore, TX; six grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Jeane was preceded in death by his parents; seven sisters and five brothers.
The Graveside Service to celebrate Jeane's life will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens, Battle Creek. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jeane's honor may be directed to Life Path Hospice, 11125 N. 52th Street, Temple Terrace, FL 33617 or a Hospice of your choice. The Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek is in charge of the arrangements.
