Jeanne "Carol" Alday

Jeanne Carol Alday, age 95, of Bellevue, formerly of Battle Creek, died Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the Legacy at the Oaks.  

Carol was born in Mattoon, IL on January 12, 1929, the daughter of James W. and Georgia (Bartlett) Ragan.  

In 1942 she moved to Battle Creek and graduated from B.C.C.H.S. in 1948.  She then attended Mullinex Business School followed by employment at Michigan Unemployment Compensation Commission.  

In 1950 she married Glenn W. Alday, who survives.  They lived in East Lansing for two years when she was employed by the Michigan Civil Service Commission as a secretary.  After her husband graduated from MSU and his service in Korea they returned to Battle Creek. 

She was active in Lakeview PTSO while her children were in school, was a Red Cross volunteer at the former B.C. Health System and blood drives for a total of 17 years.  Carol enjoyed quilting, reading mysteries and was a master gardener.  She was an avid MSU Basketball fan and a member of Pennfield Presbyterian Church.  

Surviving are her husband, Glenn; sons, James (Debbie) of East Leroy and Bryan of Bellevue; daughter, Annette (Terry) Lake of Chapin, S.C.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Carol was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.  

Funeral services to celebrate Carol’s life will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 9, 2024 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care.  Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, starting at 1:00 p.m.   Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Pennfield Presbyterian Church or the Wounded Warrior Project.  Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
