Jeanne (Buck) Winer

March 14, 1927 — December 12, 2021

Alice "Jeanne" (Buck) Winer, 94, a lifelong resident of Battle Creek passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday evening, December 12, 2021.

Jeanne was born in Battle Creek on March 14, 1927 to Eugene and Christine (DeVries) Methot. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1944. During high school, she worked as a secretary at Joseph C. Grant Store. After graduation, she worked at Percy Jones General Hospital. She left the workplace upon her firstborn's arrival and later returned in the late 60's at Defense Logistics Services Center.

Jeanne married David L. Buck on April 11, 1947 and had six loving children. David preceded her in death on December 30, 1965. She was married to Harold A. Winer on November 10, 1973 until his passing on September 26, 2002.

Jeanne is survived by daughter, Lynda Atteberry; sons, Gregory (Vicki) Buck, Stuart (Tracy) Buck, Doug (Rita) Buck, and Scott (Dee) Buck; daughter-in-law, Cindy Buck; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her beloved son, Robert D. Buck; son-in-law, Carl Atteberry; sisters, Elaine Calendar and Helen Russell; and special companion, Sam Stellrecht.

Jeanne was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served on many committees. She belonged to the United Methodist women's group and served as president at both Convis-Union and First United Methodist. Jeanne compiled many church cookbooks throughout the years featuring all of her beloved recipes and put together Christmas cookie platters for shut ins. She is most remembered for preparing luncheon meals with her dear friend Hattie Tuck.

Jeanne always stated her greatest accomplishment in life was raising her 6 children. As a young mother she participated in all the children's activities from Boy Scouts as Den Mother, to Room Mother, 4-H, and Pennfield Band Boosters. The high school floats were built in their farmhouse barn, often taking first place. Jeanne received pleasure playing the piano, crafting, baking cookies, sending greeting cards, volunteering at voting polls, and organizing parties. Her most memorable party was her 80th birthday celebration shared with her son, Scott's, 50th. She always loved spending time with her family and especially all of her "little people," her grand and great grandchildren.

Jeanne's family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 2021 at First United Methodist Church 111 East Michigan Ave. Battle Creek, MI 49014. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 11:00 a.m. at the church. The service will be Live-Streamed and may be viewed at https://vimeo.com/658159604.
