Jerry Lee (Landes) Compton

Jerry Lee (Landes) Compton, 83, of Battle Creek died at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence on Friday, August 8, 2014.

Jerry Lee Landes was born February 28, 1931 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Victor and Frances (Johnson) Landes. Jerry grew up in Terre Haute where she graduated from high school. She earned her Registered Nursing Degree at Union Hospital in Terre Haute and went to work immediately. After her husband, died she went back to work. Jerry was employed at Community Hospital and for Dr. Zheutlin and Kranz, retiring in 1998.

Jerry married Robert Compton on December 23, 1950. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, on January 20, 1978. Surviving are two daughters, Cindy (Steve) Turner of Battle Creek, Sandy (Fred) Sellers of Kalamazoo; three sons, Michael Compton of Columbus, OH, Robert (Cathy) Compton of Lincoln City, IN and Timothy (Sharon Miller) Compton of Houston, TX; nine grandchildren, 9.9 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Forbes and Peggy Persinger. In addition to her husband, Jerry was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Roberts.

Jerry was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and was active in the Stephen Ministry. She enjoyed oil painting and basket weaving. Jerry attended all of her children and grandchildren's events. She was an avid Michigan State University fan. Most of all, Jerry loved her family and friends.

Jerry has donated her remains to the Willed Body Program at Michigan State University. Friends will be received 2:00-3:00 p.m. Monday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where memorial services will be officiated by Pastor Chad Parmalee 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2014.
