Joan Annette Stringer, passed away at home on May 1, 2022 after battling a long illness. She was born December 30, 1934 in Battle Creek to Frank L. and Pauline (Harrison) Wade.
She graduated from Central High School in 1952. She married James F. Stringer in May 1954 at First Baptist Church in Battle Creek, MI. While Jim was in the Navy, they lived in Memphis, TN, Vallejo, CA, and Long Beach, CA. They moved to Memphis, TN when Jim left the Navy and lived there from 1957 to 1960 when they moved back to Battle Creek.
Joan worked as a secretary at Civil Defense in B.C., Long Beach Naval Shipyard, General Foods, Northwestern Junior High, and retired from Stetler, Vanderveer and Associates after 22 years as an administrative assistant in 1998. She was a former member of First Baptist Church serving as a church treasurer for 12 years. She enjoyed gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, and being with friends and family.
Surviving are three children, Jeffrey of St. Augustine, FL, Steven (Joyce) Stringer and Julie Neumann of Battle Creek; four grandchildren, Kevin, Angela, Shannon and Jennifer; Three great-grandchildren, Skyler, Sam, Ayesha, as well as nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband James Stringer in 1987, her parents, brothers Roland and Jack Wade and their wives, Delores and Aileen, respectively.
Funeral services to celebrate Joan's life will be 12:00 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2022 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Humane Society of South-Central Michigan or the Salvation Army.
