Joan Elizabeth Towery, age 88, of Homer, Michigan passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, June 6, 2019. She was born in Battle Creek on September 30, 1930, the daughter of Robert E. and Genevieve (Rochelle) Gault. Joan received her Bachelor's in Social Service from Western Michigan University and retired from the State of Michigan in 1988, after more than 25 years as a social worker.
Joan was a former member of the Convis United Methodist Church where she directed the church choir for many years. Family was everything to Joan and she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. An avid Detroit Tiger fan, she enjoyed watching her Tigers and supporting the Battle Creek baseball teams. Joan also enjoyed crocheting, gardening, singing, and drawing.
Joan is survived by her son, Rob (Paula) Towery of Homer; her step-children, Doyle (Pam) Towery and Judy (Tom) Censki, both of Battle Creek; her grandchildren, Meghan (Josh), Melissa (Lyle), R. Shane, Michaela, Gavin, James (Vicki), Teresa (Ding), Karen, Sandy, Kim, and Don; and several great-grandchildren. She was sadly preceded in death by two husbands, Frank Vaughn and Doyle Towery; her parents; and her sister & brothers, Ruth Stevens, Robert, John, David and James Gault.
The family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 10th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where funeral services to celebrate Joan's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Hicks West Pennfield Cemetery.
