V. Joan "Joanie" Woods, 82, of Coldwater, and formerly of Battle Creek, died Sunday, January 12, 2014. Joanie was born February 17, 1931 in Cleveland, OH to Claude and Lenore (Sweezey) Day. She received a Medical Assistant's Degree from San Bernardino College and worked for various doctor's offices and hospitals throughout her career.
Joanie was a dedicated member at Maple United Methodist Church where she was involved in their Kitchen Group and other various ministries for many years. She also held memberships at the YWCA Newcomers Club, the Delsey Auxiliary and the VFW Women's Auxiliary. Joanie was very active at Burnham Brook, where she belonged to the Red Hat Ladies, the sewing club and the swimming club. At one time she was a den mother in the Boy Scouts and the past president of the San Bernardino County Medical Assistant Association. She also enjoyed cake decorating, cooking, playing the piano, traveling, painting, reading and arts and crafts.
Joanie is survived by her three children, Joan (Jody) Trenary, of Quincy, MI; Michael (Susan) Woods, of Willis, TX and Patricia Woods, of Battle Creek; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was sadly preceded in death by her husband, Dale Woods in 2007, and their son, Dale (Ernie) Woods, Jr., in 2005, and her parents.
A memorial service to celebrate Joanie's life will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Linda Stoddard. Family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service, starting at 1:00 p.m. for visitation. A private interment will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Maple United Methodist Church.
